Faculty members in the College of Business and Economics advise students on all aspects of their undergraduate program and serve as a resource for assisting students in meeting career goals. Every student is assigned a faculty adviser after being admitted to the college as either a pre-major or major.
Following the completion of First Year Experience (FYE), pre-business students are advised by a professional adviser in Student Academic and Career Services until they complete the lower-level requirements and are admitted into the major.
Who Is My Adviser?
You can find out who your adviser is after logging into Towson Online Services. SA Self Service>Learner Services>Academics>View My Adviser. If you don't see an adviser assigned or you are changing your major to business or pre-business and need advising, visit the Student Academic and Career Services office in Stephens Hall 301.
Meet With Your Adviser Every Term
You must meet with your adviser every term before you can register for classes. If you do not meet with your adviser, you will have a hold on your registration and will not be able to register for courses.
While your adviser may initiate contact, you will need to make an appointment to meet with your adviser. For many advisers, the best way to make an appointment is through phone or email. Some advisers use an online scheduling system. Your adviser will let you know the best procedure to follow. If they indicate that phone is best, remember to leave a voicemail message. They will not know you tried to be in touch without it! Faculty and academic adviser contact information can be found in the TU Directory.
No one other than your adviser will remove your hold and your hold will be applied each fall and spring term.
What to Bring to Your Advising Meeting
Bring a copy of a completed Advising Form using the information from your academic requirements found on Towson Online Services. Also, be sure to use the CBE Prerequisite Checking Guide (PDF) when planning your courses. If you are a transfer student, you should also bring a copy of your Evaluation of Transfer Credit Report, any petitions to accept courses transferred in as part of your degree requirements, and your term-by-term plan of courses.
You Can Register After Meeting with Your Adviser
All College of Business and Economics students have an academic advising hold on their account. The advising hold will only be removed after you have met with your adviser. You can find out if you have any holds on your account by logging onto Towson Online Services and following: SA Self Service>Learner Services>Academics>Holds.
